Getting Ready for the Spring

Sunday, February 28, 2016

If you're anything like us, you get super excited when the first day of non-freezing weather occurs and then you automatically transition into SPRING MODE! We always get so let down when we have a couple of really nice days and then suddenly it's 40 and freezing again. Anyone else? But, as the sun is shining today and the weather is in the mid-60's, we decided to celebrate with a spring related blog post!

Even though it's still wintertime, we are already so over the winter. So naturally we are looking forward to the spring, and everything it has to offer. Spring is around the corner (hopefully)! Here are our tips for the spring!

Brighten up your space

Brightening up your area makes everything pop more, even with minimal sunlight streaming through. So in other words, even on a gloomy day, your area won't look dark. Now, we aren't saying that you should go repaint your rooms white and buy bright colored furniture, but adding some pastels and a pop of color certainly do the job!

Flowers, Flowers, Flowers

We're talking to all of the flower lovers out there! Flowers are a great way to add a pop of color to any room. They are beautiful and you can get real or fake flowers and you'll still get that color pop. Flowers typically bloom in the spring, so they are fresh and beautiful!

Eat Seasonal Fruits

Fruits are especially good to eat, especially during the spring and summer! They are so fresh and at least for us, when it is warm and the sun is shining, they become that much more appealing. Most fruit are also in season during the spring which ensures that they are fresh.

Go outside

The outdoors have so much to offer. Whether it be a great environment for recreation or simply nature's beauty, the outdoors are beautiful. During the spring, the trees blossom and all of the flowers bloom. The grass gets green and the sun is shining. Everything seems so alive. And our favorite part? The spring air. Oh my gosh we can't even begin to explain the freshness of the air in the springtime but wow, it is magical. Enjoy the fresh air and beauty of nature because before you know it, spring will turn to summer.

Thanks for reading everyone! We hope you all are as excited about the spring as we are! What is your favorite part abut spring? Leave us a comment down below! Until next time!

Strawberry Chia Smoothie

  • A couple of frozen strawberries
  • Water
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Honey, Maple Syrup, or Agave Nectar
  • 1-2 tablespoons of chia seeds
Blend it all up (we use our single serving Ninja cups) and enjoy! This one is Kalina's favorite! This one is super simple and healthy. This one in particular is so refreshing and you can have it for breakfast or in the afternoon for a little refresher after a long day!

  • Your favorite frozen fruit (we love using frozen strawberries, mango, or blueberries)
  • Water or orange juice
  • 2-3 spoonfuls of Greek Yogurt (plain or flavored)
  • A handful of spinach
  • 1-2 tablespoons of chia seeds
This smoothie is great for breakfast! It is nutritious and keeps you full until lunchtime! Many people's main concern with smoothies is that they wont be filling enough for breakfast but smoothies are so versatile that if you want a filling smoothie, you can make one! The spinach in this smoothie is an amazing addition because you can hardly even taste it and spinach has countless health benefits!

Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie

  • 1 banana
  • 1-2 tablespoons peanut butter (almond butter is a great alternative as well)
  • Oats
  • Soy milk or almond milk
  • A drizzle of honey (for added sweetness)
  • Cinnamon
This is a very filling smoothie for sure and is perfect for those who are looking for something sweet! This smoothie is a treat for the taste buds and is a perfect alternative to eating dessert. You can enjoy this smoothie in the morning, as a snack, or even as a dessert! YUM!

Remember This...

It's okay not to be okay.
Trying to constantly put on a happy face when you really aren't is a task in itself. You don't have to pretend like you've got it together or that you are happy all the time. That's not how life works. If you're having a bad day, that's okay. The worst thing to do is bottle up your emotions and pretend you're okay when you're hurting inside.

The past does not define you.
So what if you did something you're not proud of? That doesn't mean you should let it consume you. Let go and learn from it. Ultimately, you are the decider of your actions and therefore you can change and grow as a person every single day.

Failure does not exist. Only learning opportunities do.
We've had our fair share of "failures" that we truly labeled as such. But why? All that does is make us feel worse. You can always improve as long as you view your "failures" as learning opportunities and take a moment to reflect on what went wrong so you can be more successful next time.

Give yourself the chance to be happy.
Plain and simple: Don't stand in the way of your own happiness. Give yourself the chance to experience joy and be happy!

You are YOU for a reason.
So much of our (everyone as humans) lives is spent on comparing ourselves to others. You are you for a reason though. You weren't born to be the same as the random person you see in public or your best friend. You were born to be you. You are unique and you are a contribution to the world, whether you realize it or not.

It's never too late.
This is true for so many things. If you regret something you said to someone, tell them that you're sorry even if a lot of time has passed. Or if you've always wanted to do something that you just haven't gotten around to or haven't had the opportunity to do, go do it. It is never to late to try new things, improve yourself, or say sorry for something.

Spend time learning about yourself.
Experiences shape you as a person and through those experiences, you learn a lot about yourself. Many times you find something in yourself that you never knew about, whether that be good or bad. It's important to reflect on those experiences and take something away from each one.

Express yourself without the fear of being judged.
You aren't the bad or flawed one. Society is. Never be afraid to let your true self shine because you were placed on this world for a reason. People will always have their opinions (good and bad). But you can make the decision to pay more attention to what you think of yourself rather than what others think of you. At the end of the day, if you're happy with who you are, that's what really matters.

Things change. You change.
Humans fear change. And that can sound cliché but it is so true. Humans fear the unknown and when things start to change, they often close their doors and try to hold on to the things they know and are comfortable with. You won't stay the same forever. You are a different person than you were 2 years ago, 2 months ago, 2 days ago, even 2 minutes ago. We are constantly changing, growing, and learning new things about the world. And guess what? That is perfectly normal.

Pursue your passions.
We are always told that we are passionate about the wrong things or that our career goals are a recipe for disaster or that we are wasting our time doing the things we love. This is not right. At the end of the day, the only regrets you'll have are the things you missed out on or the chances you didn't take. Your personal happiness is so incredibly important and valuable. Don't let others tell you that you can't or shouldn't do something that you love.

Your opinions matter. You are significant.
We've heard way too many people say that their opinions don't matter because they are insignificant. FALSE. Each and every person is born into this planet with the right to form personal opinions and voice them. I guess what we're trying to say is that just because you aren't the president or you aren't famous, that doesn't mean that you and your opinions don't matter.
